TOP FIVE FILMS OF KOLLYWOOD(GROSS) Social networking sites are abuzz with the news of Thuppakki 100 crore gross. People are having discussions on the networking sites about the Top Five films based on their gross revenue. Cinema Lead is ha ppy that our article on Share, Gross and Nett was helpful to many in understanding the Box Office terms in Kollywood.Since there have been a lot of queries on Top Five Films (Gross), here’s an article on Top 5 Film of Kollywood based on the Gross revenue. So here we go… 1) Endhiran: By all statistics, Endhiran ranks No.1 in Box office. The total gross revenue of the movie was expected to be around 280-300 crores . Sun Pictures has officially announced this in their year end report.
Budget: 150 crores(Rajini's salary + budget) Gross:300 crores , Nett:250 crores , Share:172 crores , Total profit= (Share- budget) + Satellite rights = 22 + 40 =62 crores. 2) Sivaji: As per our estimates Sivaji should have grossed around 130 crores. It has to be recalled that Rajinikanth in an interview had revealed that when the discussion of producing Endhiran has been going on, Kalanithi Maran had asked Rajini to wait for some days since he wanted to collect the area wise box office report of Sivaji. Maran came to a conclusion to produce Endhiran with a whooping 132 crores budget based on the report. This is also an indication that Sivaji’s gross will be about 130 crores. Budget: 60 crores , Gross:130 crores , Nett:90 crores , Share:70 crores , Profit: 10 + 15 = 25 crores 3) Thuppakki: As of now Thuppakki has grossed 100 crores and by our estimate it will end up with 115 crores. The total share amount for Thuppakki will be around 80 crores and it will find its place on an all time number three in Box Office.
Budget:70 crores , gross:115 crores , Nett:90 crores , Share:80 crores , Total profit: 10 +15 = 25 crores. 4) 7aam Arivu/ Dasavatharam/ Nanban : It can be said that all the three films have sailed in the same boat. More or less, all these three films have grossed about 90-95 crores. The Nett amount is expected to be around 60-65 crores and the film’s budget was also more or less the same. Hence all the three films should have made only return on investment. As there has been a very minor difference between all three films’ Gross, it is very difficult to rank them. -Dasavatharam- :
Budget:55crores , Gross:90crores , Nett:75 crores , Share:60crores Profit:5 + 5 = 10 crores -Nanban- : Budget:55 crores , Gross:90 crores , Nett:75 crores , Share: 60crores , Profit:5 + 12 =17 crores. -7aam arivu- : Budget:60 crores , gross;90 crores , Nett:75 crores , Share:60 crores , Profit: 0+ 10= 10 crores. 5) Mankatha: Mankatha grossed about 80-85 crores in Box Office, the share amount should have been about 50 crores. The film was made with a budget of 35 crores and hence the film gave the producers huge profits. If profit is taken into consideration, Mankatha should be at number four. Since the article deals on Gross, Mankatha is at number five. Budget: 35 crores , Gross:80 crores , Nett:65 crores , Share:50 crores , Total profit: 15 + 5 = 20 crores Special thanks: we like to thank Dhananjayang govind(Sothern head of UTV) for his information on distributor's share, he said "Yes. Normally a distributor share is around 55-60% depending on how big the film is. For smaller films it will be 50% of the gross" which is very helpful in writing this article. Note: These are the approximated figures.
